DePaul tops ISU; Maryland wins
DePaul 80, Illinois St. 75: Allie Quigley scored 22 points and Natasha Williams added 18 to lead No. 18 DePaul to a victory over host Illinois State. Caprice Smith had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Deirdre Naughton added 15 points for the Blue Demons (4-0). Kristi Cirone led the Redbirds (4-1) with 25 points.
Maryland 79, UCLA 75: Kristi Toliver scored 22 points, including six 3-pointers, and No. 3 Maryland overcame a 16-point second-half deficit to beat host UCLA. Marissa Coleman had 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead Maryland (8-0), which needed a 14-0 run to retake a lead it held the entire first half. Maryland held UCLA to just 4 points during the final 5:47 of the game. UCLA made just 1 of 11 field goals during the final seven minutes of the game.
Connecticut 74, Duke 48: Tina Charles had 13 points and 8 rebounds to lead second-ranked Connecticut over No. 9 Duke for the Paradise Jam championship in the Virgin Islands. Maya Moore added 12 points, and Renee Montgomery and Kalana Greene each had 10 for the Huskies, who shot 53 percent from the floor while holding Duke to 36 percent. Chante Black led Duke (5-1) with 16 points.
N. Carolina 77, Furman 36: Cetera DeGraffenreid scored 16 points to lead fifth-ranked North Carolina to a victory over visiting Furman. Freshman Rebecca Gray added 14 points for the Tar Heels (7-0).
Leading scorer Rashanda McCants did not start because she was late to practice Friday. She finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds.
DeGraffenreid filled in again at point guard for Alex Miller, who sustained a left knee injury Nov. 16 and is likely out for the season. She has also moved ahead of classmate Italee Lucas, who was expected to be the successor to the graduated Ivory Latta.
