Get 14th District debates under way
I am disappointed Republican candidates in the 14th Congressional District have no scheduled debates.
Presidential candidates and 14th District Democratic candidates are actively debating; an important component of any primary election. Kevin Burns has asked for debates. Chris Lauzen and Jim Oberweis do not see the need to tell us their positions on so many critical issues.
It is no secret they both are well-funded and have name recognition. Do they feel their best election strategy is to depend on advertising and public relation organizations?
It is easier to stay away from specific positions by communicating through brochures and advertisements. What I see from our state government in Springfield is corruption and ineffectiveness.
Lauzen has been part of that for a long time, and he should address this issue, and others, in a debate.
Oberweis appears too far right and out of touch with our district. Quite frankly, he scares me. He also needs to get away from his well-oiled TV commercials and debate the other candidates. Oberweis and Lauzen should follow Burns' lead and get the important part of this election started.
