Three hurt in Thanksgiving night Mundelein crash

Three people were injured, one seriously, when a car hit several trees Thursday night in Mundelein.

Police said they believe alcohol and speed were factors in the crash. The driver, 24-year-old Erick Garcia-Aguilar of Mundelein, has been charged with driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and other traffic-related violations.

Additional charges are pending, police said.

The crash occurred about 9:30 p.m. on Seymour Avenue near Lake Shore Drive.

Garcia-Aguilar, of 442 Hickory St., Mundelein, was headed south on Seymour in a 1999 Honda Accord when he lost control and struck the trees, police said.

A 16-year-old Mundelein girl riding in the front seat was flown by emergency helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Her name was not released.

A 17-year-old girl riding in the back seat was taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Her name was not released, either.

Garcia-Aguilar was also taken to Condell.

The speed limit at that intersection, which is in a residential area, is 25 mph, police said. Police were not immediately sure of the car's speed when it crashed.

Due to the severity of the accident, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is working with Mundelein police on the investigation.
