The war sends us deeper into debt

Where is all our money going? I am a freshman in high school and I shudder to think what kind of taxes I will have to pay in the future. The U.S. is more than $9 trillion in debt. The government spends $ 1.47 billion a day. Each citizen is more than $30,000 in debt. Where does the government think this money is coming from?

Every day, the government plans on a deficit budget, and every day, it follows through. The Bush administration has no plans of trying to pull the U.S. out of debt. The amazing thing is, every year we are able to pay our debt off by borrowing even more money. Twelve percent of all our spending is net interest. Over 50 percent of our spending is current and past military.

The money spent on the Iraq war alone is over $470 trillion. If we did not get involved in this war, we could have built 4 million homes, hired 8 million teachers, insured 280 million children, or given out 22 million college scholarships. The only solution, is to get out of the war.

President Bush keeps asking for more money but refuses to agree to set a date for the troops to be pulled out. We as Americans have to stand up, for the good of our wallets and that of our children.
