Barrington youth sports group names first chief

Barrington native and North Barrington resident Brad Sparesus was named executive director for Barrington Youth Baseball and Softball, making him the nonprofit's first executive director.

He will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation and administration of the organization, as well as the promotion of its programs through community outreach, communication, corporate sponsorship opportunities and special projects and events.

Sparesus, who has spent 18 years in sports management and broadcasting, previously served Barrington Youth Baseball and Softball as a commissioner in 2005 and as a member of its board of directors from 2006-2007.

• The International Code Council presented Donald Plass, administrative director of code enforcement for Hoffman Estates, with its Community Service Award for his efforts to promote public safety, health and welfare to ensure a more safely built environment. Plass is a former president of several Code Council chapters and holds dozens of certifications.
