All programs are free and are held in the second-floor meeting room. Registration is required for some programs.
Book discussions: The following book discussions will be held in November:
• The BookMarkers book club will discuss "Wild Fire" by Nelson DeMille at 7 p.m. Tuesday. This monthly book discussion is held the fourth Tuesday of each month (except December).
• The Senior Connections book club meets the second Friday of each month at the Mundelein Senior Center, 1200 Regent Dr., Mundelein.
Copies of the books are available at the library a month before the discussion date.
Cat Catalani sing-along: Fremont Public Library's December Sunday concert will feature Cat Catalani at 2 p.m. Dec. 16. Registration begins Nov. 26. To register, go to www.fremontlibrary.org and click on "Calendar," visit the Youth Services desk, or call (847) 918-3218. This is a family concert open to all ages. Children younger than 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
Catalani is a singer, songwriter, and three-time "Road Scholar" who was selected by the Illinois Humanities Council to tour the state with her concerts. In addition to coffeehouses, clubs, and festivals, Catalani has performed at school assemblies, workshops, libraries and park districts. She plays about 200 concerts a year, and her wide-ranging musical offerings include original children's songs, Gershwin standards, and hits from musicals.
In the display cases: In honor of the centennial of the birth of Gene Autry, several hundred items from a collection of Autry memorabilia are featured in the display cases on the first floor.
The items are from the collection of Dick Dzwonkiewicz of Mundelein, a long-time Autry fan.
Autry was born on Sept. 29, 1907. His career spanned some 70 years in the entertainment industry, and he became famous in film, radio, television and live theater and rodeo performances. He completed 93 movies and starred in 91 television productions.
Motorola Math Tutors: From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays from now through the winter break, volunteers from the Motorola Asian Business Council will be at Fremont Public Library to offer one-on-one math homework help to students.
The tutors will be available in the library's Youth Services Department study rooms on the first floor. Students should bring their textbooks and a calculator, if needed. The tutoring service is free, and tutors will see students on a first-come, first-served basis, so no reservations are needed.
For information, call (847) 918-3218 or ask at the Youth Services desk.
New Database: The library now has access to Ancestry.com for genealogical research. At this time, the database can only be used within the library. Ancestry.com is a subscription-based genealogy research Web site with more than five billion records online and more being added almost daily. An introduction to this new database will be offered in November.
