Elgin men charged in car break-ins
Two Elgin men were accused early Tuesday of burglarizing seven vehicles and setting another on fire, police said.
Daniel S. Morency, 20, of 1554 Mark Ave. No. 7 and Michael J. Ford, 18, of 150 Mildred Ave. No. 2, were charged with one count each of felony arson and burglary, according to court records.
The Elgin Fire Department was called at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday to a parking lot at 1470 Abbott Drive, on the west side where several contractors store their work vehicles.
A fire in a 1989 Chevrolet Blazer was extinguished but not before it was destroyed.
A few minutes later, the fire department received another call from the same area for a person with burn injuries, and Morency was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Morency and Ford were held in the Kane County jail on $7,500 bonds with Nov. 30 court dates at the Kane County Judicial Center.
