Fremd in total control; Start hurts Meadows
Ed Haugens realizes improvement for his 2007-08 Jacobs team will take some time.
Fremd proved to be too much for the Golden Eagles, posting a 48-34 win in the final round of the Dundee-Crown Thanksgiving Tournament.
Fremd (2-2) never trailed and was up by as many as 21 points on three different occasions.
After outscoring Jacobs 11-3 in the third quarter, the Vikings held a 42-23 lead entering the fourth quarter.
"Overall we had a solid effort," said Fremd coach Dave Yates. "We've played better every game. That's what you want at this time of year."
Sophomore Taylor Glassman led Fremd with 13 points and Maria Tambaria had 13 points for Jacobs.
"We didn't rebound well, we didn't play defense well, we didn't shoot well and we made too many turnovers," said Haugens.
Jacobs (1-3) was hurt by 22 percent shooting. The Golden Eagles made only 12 of 50 shots in the game and was also committed 23 turnovers.

Glenbrook N. 40, Meadows 28: Coach Patrick O'Connell and his team certainly did not get the start they were looking for Wednesday evening.
However, a second half rally by Rolling Meadows showed the grit and desire O'Connell and his team will need to be successful in MSL play this season.
Unfortunately for the Mustangs, their first-half deficit was too large to overcome as they dropped the finale of the Mundelein Turkey Shootout 40-28 to Glenbrook North for a fourth-place finish in the tournament.
"If we had played the way we did in the second half the entire game, we would have had a lot better chance to win," O'Connell said.
The Mustangs fell behind big early on as the Spartans scored 21 points to start the contest. With just under five minutes remaining in the first half, the Mustangs got their first points of the night.
"For some reason we did not come out very strongly," O'Connell added. "We've had a lot of ups and downs in this tournament. In spots, we've played well, but unfortunately we've played very inconsistently."
Trailing by 18 at the half, the Mustangs came out in the third quarter with renewed intensity and looked like the same team that had defeated Lakes and Carmel earlier in the tournament.
Meadows outscored the Spartans 11-4 in the third quarter thanks in large part to the excellent play of freshman forward Sara Shumaker.
Shumaker, although inexperienced at the varsity level, played with poise and confidence, putting up 5 points in addition to 4 rebounds and a steal.
"At first I was nervous," Shumaker said of her varsity promotion, "but my coaches have been great."
Glenbrook North was able to control the clock for most of the fourth quarter, getting solid guard play from seniors Jenna Wallis and Natasha Poulopoulos. Wallis finished with 7 points and 3 rebounds, while Poulopoulous led all scorers with 8 points as well as 3 steals.
While Meadows was able to cut GBN's lead to 6 at one point in the fourth, thanks to hard-nosed defense from senior guard Liezl Aluquin (3 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals) it wasn't enough.
"I think we came together as a team in this tournament," Shumaker said. "We could always improve in terms of team energy, but I really think we have come together so far this season."
