Library hours and closing: The Ela Area Public Library will close at 5 p.m. today and be closed all day on Thursday for Thanksgiving. The Library will resume regular hours on Friday. Ela Area Public Library hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays; and noon until 5 p.m. Sundays.

Senior Book Group: Ela Area Public Library offers a senior book discussion from 9:30 to 11 a.m. the fourth Monday of each month. The next program will take place Monday when the featured book will be "Whistling Season" by Ivan Doig. Large print and paperback copies of the book are available at the Readers' Services Desk.

The Christmas Tree Ship: Hear details of Chicago's most celebrated tall ship of the 1900s that brought Christmas trees from the upper peninsula of Michigan to Chicago, during "The Christmas Tree Ship" from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday. Author Rochelle M. Pennington will share this story and a slide lecture detailing the annual voyage. This is a free program, but registration is required.

Holiday Table Magic: Learn to create unique table settings, gifts and napkin folds just in time for holiday entertaining on from 7 to 8 p.m. Nov. 28. This workshop will be presented by Philomena Urhausen of Visual Placement and Decorating Ltd. Participants should bring a cloth dinner napkin. Advance registration is required.

eBay Selling Basics: Learn the basics of selling items on eBay a power lunch program co-sponsored with the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce from noon to 2 p.m. Dec. 5; eBay University instructor Jack Waddick will highlight eBay's latest features and new services. A free lunch will be provided. To register, call the Library or sign up online or via email.

Lap Tots: Lap Tots, a drop-in program for babies and toddlers through 23 months, is a monthly storytime offered at the Ela Area Public Library. Lap Tots is held from 9:30 to 10 a.m. for infants sitting/crawling and 10:30 to 11 a.m. for babies walking. The next sessions will be held on Dec. 21 and will include stories, songs and rhymes. Children must be with an adult. Older siblings are not permitted in this class. Registration is not required.

• Lap Tots Play Group, a drop-in program for babies and toddlers through 23 months, is held monthly at the Ela Area Public Library. Designed especially for young children, the play group will meet from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Dec. 7. Children must be with a caregiver. Toys and books will be provided. Registration is not required.

Handbell Choir: Celebrate the holidays with the English handbell ensemble Chicago Bronze from 2 to 3 p.m. Dec. 8. Using a five octave set of bells and four octaves of handchimes, the group will perform a variety of holiday favorites for listeners of all ages. Families are encouraged to attend. Registration is required.

Bedtime Storytime: Bedtime Storytime, a drop-in program for families and children of all ages, will take place from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13. Presented by a children's librarian, this interactive evening program will feature stories and songs for bedtime. Children are encouraged to wear their pajamas. Registration is not required. Holiday Craft for Kids: Create a star ornament for holiday decorations from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 15. Preschoolers must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required. For more information, call (847) 438-3840.
