Briefs: CyberQuiz offers prizes
Sixth- through ninth-graders have a chance to win an iPod, a portable computer and other prizes in the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy's annual CyberQuiz 4 Kids Challenge. Math and science brainteasers and word problems are found at www.imsa.edu. Students who submit correct answers to one of the monthly challenges are entered into a monthly random prize drawing for an iPod. They also are entered into a random grand prize drawing for a portable computer or four tickets to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee. Every student submitting a correct answer to one of the monthly online challenges also will receive a certificate of achievement and invitation to a special recognition event at IMSA.
Clerk's holiday hours:
The Kane County clerk's office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today, closed Thursday and Friday and reopen at 8:30 a.m. Monday and resume normal business hours. The clerk's office is at 719 S. Batavia Ave. in Geneva.
Playhouse selling stuff
First Street Playhouse, First and Water streets, Batavia, is selling off props, lumber, paint supplies and furniture. The sale will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Individual appointments are also available. To set up an appointment, e-mail firststreetproduction@yahoo.com.
Christmas décor contest
The North Aurora Lions Club will sponsor a Christmas home decoration contest for residents. Categories are festive, religious and neighborhood. Entry and judging forms are available at Messenger Public Library, Old Second National Bank, Valley Community Bank, the village hall and Woodman's Market. Entries are due Nov. 30. Entrants' addresses might be published in newspapers and judged by residents of North Aurora. Awards of $150, $100 and $50 will be given. Call Sarah Prah at (630) 745-0389.
Arrange Santa phone call:
Parents can arrange for Santa, Mrs. Claus or an elf to place a special call to a child next month through the St. Charles Park District. Forms for the Santa's Calling program are available at Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave., and Baker Community Center, 101 S. Second St. They must be returned no later than Dec. 7. Arranged phone calls will be made Dec. 10. The cost is $4 for district residents and $6 for visitors. All proceeds benefit the Salvation Army. Call (630) 584-1055.
