Briefs: Benefit concert Friday
A Chicago-area band called Samadhi Vibe will perform a charity concert Friday night at Mundelein High School, 1350 W. Hawley St. The show is set for 7 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Joe Flynn Memorial Voices Scholarship, which is named after a Mundelein graduate who drowned in 2005. Flynn had been editor of the school's Voices literary magazine.
More land preserved
Another 64 acres of land near Libertyville will be preserved in its natural state. The Liberty Prairie Conservancy, a not-for-profit land preservation group, said Tuesday that an anonymous landowner agreed to place a conservation easement on the property, a restriction that stays with the land in perpetuity. The action closes a gap between two sizable blocks of previously protected space, according to the conservancy. The property includes woods, prairie and farmland. Protecting blocks of land prevents disruption to ecosystems, according to the conservancy. The exact location was not identified. Just over a week ago, the conservancy announced the pending acquisition of 34 acres of the Casey Farm near Milwaukee Avenue and Casey Road.
Area band marches on
The Lake Zurich High School marching band will perform in the McDonald's Chicago Thanksgiving Parade Thursday, preceding the appearance of Santa Claus. The parade begins 9 a.m. and will be broadcast live on WGN-TV Channel 9. The 135-member band will later head to England to perform in London's 22nd annual New Year's Day Parade Jan. 1, billed as the largest in the world. That parade will be viewed by up to 1 million live spectators and millions more will watch on television, organizers said.
