Yahoo sells out values in China
Last week, Michael Calahan, Yahoo general counsel, excused Yahoo and defended the outing of a pro-democracy Chinese journalist, Shi Tao, who will serve a 10-year sentence.
The journalist's crime was supporting the pro-democracy freedoms that America stands for, and which have nurtured Yahoo into existence.
Americans are dying in Iraq defending freedom, yet Yahoo is too cowardly or self-serving to pick up its business and get out of China, if necessary, to protect local employees and defend principles. Instead Yahoo laid at the feet of non-democratic legal system a comrade in the fight for democracy.
If the label reads "made in China," should we continue to support such a country with our dollars? Or are we, as much as Yahoo, in league with the devil of desire?
