Politicians need to feel taxpayer pain

DuPage County politicians say the worst case scenario to remedy the budget shortfall is to cut their staff! The "instant" fix is a proposed direct tax increase or an indirect tax increase by cutting the amount of services I pay for.

I think it is high time the county got a dose of what the rest of us working taxpayers have to do to make our living and pay our taxes. We work longer hours with less pay and less benefits. In industry, it is not uncommon to work a "regular" workday and then stay up late or get up very early in the morning to talk to work associates on the other side of the world in places such as India or China.

Our jobs are being outsourced left and right with Americans going for years without a raise. Yet, the county has the gall to ask for more of my shrinking paycheck. That is the worst ease scenario!

Another source of expense on the county taxpayer dollar not being addressed is the drain of tax dollars by illegal aliens. I haven't seen any of those figures addressed in the press and they need to be. Why should legal taxpayers be shouldering the bill so illegal aliens can have a free ride to the clinic?

I think with some tough love to the moochers, the budget situation can he remedied without compromising public safety or sweeping closures of existing services. It's just a matter of how hard you want to work. Politicians, remember, you work for us, not the other way around.
