More questions about teachers
To the editor: In reading the Neighbor Fencepost, I share the same views as many readers and felt a need to speak up too.
The teacher's salaries, full benefits upon retirement, step and lane increases are causing our property taxes to go out of control.
I think the Daily Herald is going a GREAT job in identifying where our tax dollars go in the weekly articles, but I would like to see published the average amount of classroom time teachers actually spend teaching with regards to the salary and benefits provided. Additionally, how much time do the department heads actually spend time in the classroom?
Regarding pensions, I understand that teachers receive 80 percent of their salary with full medical benefits for the reminder of their life. What is the average age for retirement, how many years of service and what is the retirement benefit received? How much of our property tax dollars are actually going to the teachers retirement?
