Police say two responsible for Larkin senior's death
It was a Saturday night in 1999, and Hector Roman's two nephews and a niece were visiting at the second floor Elgin apartment he shared with his mom and sister.
It was fairly warm night for late March, so he went outside for a cigarette.
Moments later, he crawled back up the stairs, mortally wounded from three bullets to the chest.
The 18-year-old senior at Larkin High School died in front of his mother, sister and the three children.
Police said they believe two people were responsible for Roman's death: one who fired the .38-caliber revolver and another who drove a getaway vehicle.
