Officials: Teen likely mistaken for a rival gang member

Jeffrey T. Signorelli just wanted to hang out with some friends after work.

Instead, police say, a case of being mistaken as a gangbanger led to his death.

More than five years after the 18-year-old was killed, Aurora police are still hoping for a break in the case.

"It's high on our priority list because we have such strong suspects. We're just missing a little tiny piece," said Jeff Sherwood, Aurora police detective.

On July 11, 2002, Signorelli was with some friends in a garage of a townhouse complex in the 300 block of Lawndale Avenue.

It was a Thursday night, and lifeguards like Signorelli and other employees and lifeguards with the Fox Valley Park District would usually hang out.
