Midnight fire destroys Palatine house
Palatine fire officials say a house fire at 1216 E. Sayles Drive is under investigation.
The fire, which occurred Saturday just before midnight, caused $200,000 in damage and rendered the home uninhabitable.
Fire officials said all residents were out of the building when firefighters arrived. One resident of the house complained of minor smoke inhalation and was treated and released at the scene, according to the fire department.
Palatine firefighters responded to the report of a deck fire at 11:51 p.m.
Within four minutes of the call, the first units arrived and saw a large fire at the back corner of the home, with flames entering the attic.
The crew stretched a nearly 2-inch hose line to protect the house next door, while multiple hose lines were used to put out the fire in the attic.
Meanwhile, other crews took care of water supply, salvage and overhaul, emergency management, safety and support functions.
The fire was declared under control at 12:26 a.m.
A total of 28 firefighters manning four engines, two ladder trucks, two rescue squads and three ambulances responded to the scene, along with four command officers and an investigator.
Units from Arlington Heights Fire Department and the Long Grove Fire Protection District provided assistance.
Officers from the Palatine Police Department also assisted with traffic control.
