Plan now how your holiday table will look
You've spent weeks hunting down the right recipes and days making your feast. Don't leave the table to the last minute.
Here are some tips from the editors of domino magazine to take your dinner table from dull to decked-out this holiday season:
• Invest in a nice, white linen tablecloth. Think of it as the "dress" for your table. If it reaches the floor, it becomes more formal, like a ball gown.
• You can't go wrong with good quality, white linen napkins. When ironed or starched, you can fold them simply in an elegant, accordion shape. To add color to the table, try red for Christmas.
• You do not need to use expensive or fancy plates -- a simple white plate looks good for every occasion.
• Don't be afraid to use your real silver flatware every day and your silver-plated flatware for special occasions. Surprisingly, the silver-plated flatware has a more delicate finish (and the finish comes off after repeated uses).
• Don't worry if you don't have full sets of glass or stemware. Mixing different glasses gives the table a warm, fun look.
• Instead of using a tall flower arrangement that stops your guests from seeing each other across the table, use low cut flowers in a short vase.
• Don't worry about trying to impress your guests. Just focus on making them feel welcome and having fun -- remember they are there to see you.
