Illegal immigration hottest election topic

Ruben Navarrette, there is no right way to give an illegal alien a driver's license. You do not reward an illegal act with a privilege that belongs to citizens.

(New York Gov. Eliot) Spitzer was going to give them regular licenses, but the rage that caused made him change his mind. He made promises during his campaign that he is trying to keep -- that is unusual in itself.

A regular license can be used in many states for voting, and we do not want illegal aliens voting.

If you give an illegal any kind of government document, that, in itself, gives them a pass.

They used false names and documents to come here. What makes us think we would get the right information if we documented them? I believe any document would be the first step to citizenship, which most people oppose.

Immigration will be the hot topic of the 2008 elections.
