Herald reporting unfair to teachers
I've become increasingly disappointed at the biased reporting I feel the Daily Herald has engaged in over the last several years in regards to teacher's compensation.
Without going into past transgressions, the latest opinion masquerading as news is the front-page article entitled "Teacher pay hikes more than they seem."
Although the article would claim to inform the readers about the various types of raises a teacher receives, it frequently uses language that clearly implies the writer feels the "total" raises are too high.
The writer appears upset that the teachers were willing to strike over such an insignificant amount but fails to reprimand the board for the same sin.
The writer acts as if "step" and "lane" raises are unique to teaching, but merit and professional advancement raises are the norm in the private sector and similar opportunities for salary advancements exist, as they must, in most other public sector jobs as well.
I am personally disappointed in the Daily Herald's consistently anti-teacher viewpoint in regards to compensation and the use of its lofty platform to preach instead of report, especially when it is disguised as news.
Maybe teachers and their supporters should picket your newspaper instead of the board of education.
