McLean County prosecutors seek new indictment against police sergeant
BLOOMINGTON -- McLean County prosecutors are asking a grand jury to consider a new indictment against a former police officer accused of raping four women.
Jeff Pelo has pleaded not guilty to nearly three dozen charges alleging he raped four women between December 2002 and January 2005. He also has pleaded not guilty to charges he stalked another woman.
Chief Felony Prosecutor Mark Messman said the new indictment is being sought to correct the dates contained in the stalking charge.
The new, single-count indictment accuses Pelo of stalking the woman on at least two occasions starting in 2005 and continuing through June 2006. An indictment returned by a grand jury last year said the stalking started in April 2006.
Pelo has resigned from the police departmen. He remains jailed in lieu of $200,000 bail.
