Garage sale planned to benefit Barrington family

With a local family in need, residents from Inverness and Barrington are banding together to help.

A community garage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 107 Bradwell Road in Inverness, with all proceeds benefiting the Barth family of Barrington.

After finding out earlier this month that 35-year-old Colin Barth, a father of four, had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, family friend Gary Relias said "everyone has been trying to figure out what they could do to help."

That led to the garage sale, which Relias said will feature furniture, bikes, baby items, toys, books, household items, wall art, clothes, purses, shoes and many other items.

Relias said friends, and even people who don't know the Barths, have been donating things left and right.

"It is going to be huge," Relias said, adding organizers have had to stop accepting donations because there was nowhere left to store it all.

Relias described Barth and his wife, Julie -- both Barrington High School graduates -- as great people.

"They are very social and they are very community-minded," Relias said, adding Colin Barth is a former volunteer youth football and baseball coach in Barrington.

Julie Barth said she doesn't know how to begin to thank everyone for their support.

"Colin and I are so completely overwhelmed by everything," she said. "We have the greatest friends."

Those who aren't able to make it to the sale but would like to help can send donations to Barrington Bank, c/o Barth Family Fund, 201 S. Hough Street, Barrington, IL 60010.
