Arlington woman in Illinois Senior Hall of Fame

The Illinois Department on Aging inducted Carole Rita Nolan of Arlington Heights into the Illinois Senior Hall of Fame. Nolan has lived a career of dedicated public service by applying her gifts of teaching and leading to promote quality education in Illinois. She taught science at Northeastern Illinois University; has been an adjunct professor of communications at DePaul University; was the director of telecommunication and broadcasting for the Chicago Public Schools; and most notably, in 1971, established Public Radio Education Broadcasting in Chicago. She serves on many boards and remains an active volunteer in causes affecting teachers, children, hospice, seniors, neighborhood groups, libraries and more.

• Inspector David Schuman, Des Plaines Fire Prevention Bureau, has received the Illinois Fire Inspectors New Horizon Award for Public Education. Schuman began his six-year career with the Des Plaines Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic until joining Des Plaines' Fire Prevention Bureau. While working at the Bureau, Schuman revived and implemented new guidelines bringing fire and life safety education programs to the schools and the residents of Des Plaines.
