Authentic team merchandise found at the new Sports Fanatic
If you have a sports enthusiast on your holiday list, a new store in Palatine may score big.
The Sports Fanatic recently opened at 317 E. Dundee Road in the Walgreens Shopping Center near Hicks Road.
The shop is filled with jerseys and an array of other gear with the Chicago Bulls, Bears, White Sox, Cubs and Blackhawks team logos. Jerseys range in price from $35 for children's sizes up to $165 for adults.
Authentic team and replica jerseys are available.
The football and basketball jerseys come with the player's names and numbers. The store embroiders the hockey and baseball player's names and numbers on jerseys.
Ray Laning, a resident of Palatine, owns the business.
"We have a huge selection," Laning said. Clothing for men, women, children and infants is available.
Shoppers will find everything from stickers to magnets and other memorabilia at the store, which opened about two weeks ago.
Laning operates a similar shop in Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee.
He started in the retail sports business at Randhurst Shopping Center several years ago. At that time, he operated a small kiosk that featured caps with tiny flashing lights around baseball, hockey, football and basketball emblems.
These fun fiber-optic caps run on wafer-thin batteries that can be turned on and off. They're available at the Palatine store as well.
While getting that business off the ground, Laning worked as a contractor in the construction industry.
The new Palatine store also carries an array of items for the holidays, including stockings, socks and Santa hats with sports team themes.
The store is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

New test site: Des Plaines Office Equipment President Chip Miceli announced his company is a beta site, or test location, for a remote networked printing monitoring system developed by PrintFleet Inc., a world leader in print management and assessment software.
The Des Plaines company's participation in the test of Feetview helps PrintFleet in assessing its new software, which is used by companies leasing document generating equipment. The recently released system, once installed in an office location, remotely monitors individual pieces of equipment and visually signals when a device is in a warning, error or offline state, prompting the need for a service call.
