Two drivers cited in Bannockburn crash

Traffic tickets were issued to the drivers of a semitrailer truck and a car after a Wednesday morning crash on Waukegan Road at Route 22 in Bannockburn, authorities said.

Police Chief Kevin Tracz said Martin Landeros, 21, of Libertyville, was cited for driving on a suspended license. Landeros crashed into the semi while it was making an illegal U-turn on Waukegan Road at 5:55 a.m., Tracz said.

Landeros was in critical but stable condition at Highland Park Hospital. Tracz said police investigators hope to talk to Landeros to get his side on what happened.

Craig Burger, 32, of Milwaukee, was driving the semi south on Waukegan Road when he passed Route 22 and attempted to turn left into a supermarket driveway, authorities said.

Tracz said Burger couldn't fully enter the driveway and backed onto Waukegan and was making a U-turn when Landeros crashed his 1992 Mazda into the truck. The car was wedged under the rig.

Landeros was "very lucky he wasn't killed," Tracz said.

Burger, who wasn't injured, was ticketed for making an illegal U-turn, Tracz said.

Waukegan Road was closed for about an hour and 20 minutes after the wreck.
