Register for programs at the adult reference desk or call the library. Patrons must register in person for programs requiring a fee. Programs may be canceled due to lack of registration.
Those requiring special accommodations to attend any library programs should contact community services two weeks in advance.
Using WWII Records in Genealogy Research: Attend an informative demonstration and discussion of how to use library genealogy resources to access military records at 1 p.m. today. Participants can bring their own artifact or favorite family details they've discovered. Refreshments will be served.
The Write Stuff: Third- through sixth-graders are invited to join this group the third Saturday of each month for a series of hour long creative writing workshops.
The group will explore different kinds of writing throughout the year, with the goal of creating a literary magazine.
• "Find Your (Writing) Voice": Participants get to know their personalities as authors at 1 p.m. Saturday.
• Registration is under way for "Whodunit?" Learn the how-to's of writing mystery stories at 1 p.m. Dec. 15.
• Registration begins Dec. 3 for "See Your Name in Print!" Talk about getting published with local author Lorijo Metz at 1 p.m. Jan. 19.
• The library is taking submissions for the very first edition of "The Write Stuff" Literary Magazine. To be published in early 2008, the magazine will include work from participants in The Write Stuff creative writing workshops as well as a limited number of "at-large" authors in third through sixth grade. Ask for more information at the Youth Services Reference Desk.
Special performers: These programs are free to attend and fill quickly. Tickets are required for all adults and their accompanying children ages 2 and older.
Tickets can be acquired either in person at the youth services desk or in limited numbers online beginning 10 a.m. the day of registration.

Click on the name of the program and fill in the registration information. Tickets reserved online must be picked up from the youth services desk within seven business days. Check each program description for ticket information.
• Animal Songs: Cat Catalani will sing the praises of some favorite animals at 1 p.m. Tuesday. For more information regarding upcoming performers and ticket availability, visit the Web site.
• The Magic Onion: Mark Nichols' The Puppet Place will share this tale of a princess and her dog, a wicked magician and his onion, a hungry dragon, and a handsome prince at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 14. Registration is under way.
Hours and Closings: The library is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. The library will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday and will be closed Nov. 22.
Create a Tagline: Lake Villa District Library is looking to use a tagline to help communicate its mission. Stop by the library in November and offer a contribution. Entries will be accepted from through Nov. 30. The Lake Villa District Library Board will review submissions in December. A $50 Borders Gift Card will be awarded if one of the entries is selected.
Little Listeners: The library is now offering programs intended to coach parents and caregivers in supporting children's language skills through rhymes, stories and language-building activities. The programs are designed for one-on-one interaction between child and adult partner; no other siblings should attend. Children must be the proper age by Dec. 4. Registration is under way.
• Little Listeners A: For ages 3 to 17 months. 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Dec. 4 to 18; 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 5 to 26; and 1:30 p.m. Thursdays, Dec. 6-27.
• Little Listeners B: For ages 15 to 28 months. 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Dec. 4-18; 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 5-26; and 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, Dec. 6-27.
• Little Listeners C: For ages 24 to 36 months. 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Dec. 4-18; 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays Dec. 5-26; 9:30 a.m. Thursdays Dec. 6-27.
Lakes Literary League: All writers published or not, are encouraged to attend at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 and Jan. 3. Those with writing to share can do so. Drop-off and pick up copies of writing at the Adult Reference Desk.
