The briefs

Algonquin asks public to comment

The Village of Algonquin requests public input on the development of a comprehensive streetscape improvement program in the Old Town District of Algonquin.

The plan's goal is to create attractive and visually distinctive streetscapes that unify, enhance and interconnect the various parts of the Old Town District. The plan includes guidelines for street lighting fixtures, paving materials, bollards, benches, bike racks and other streetscape features.

Implementation of the streetscape design system would improve the image of the Old Town District, establish visual continuity along key streets and pedestrian ways, assist in way-finding, and help make the area more friendly and hospitable for motorists and pedestrians.

Prior to implementing the plan, the village would like residents and business owners to review concept plan drawings and provide their comments.

The village will accept public input at a meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Historic Village Hall, 2 S. Main St. The location is an accessible facility.

Development of the plan was funded in part with an Illinois Tomorrow grant from the State of Illinois.

Special showing of students' artwork

Java Bar and the Get Smart with Art Program will co-host a showing of interpretations of Michael Angelo's artwork from Nuebert School's students in first through fifth grades. The school will choose which pieces of art go on display at Java Bar, 301 S. Main St., Algonquin.

A special showing is from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. All students, parents and interested parties are welcome.

Java Bar will contribute 10 percent of all sales that evening to the Get Smart with Art Program.

The art will remain on display for a month.
