Marian Central to hold open house for new students
Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock will open its doors to welcome the families and students interested in learning what a faith-based education has to offer.
The afternoon will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, with an administrator presentation in the auditorium. The building will be open until 3 p.m., offering opportunities to speak with teachers, tour the facilities and find out what being a Hurricane is all about.
This is a good time to be a part of the Marian community. Each year technology in the classrooms is updated and expanded, and the school extends the amount of financial assistance -- more than $170,000 in 2007-2008 -- available to its families, and athletic and other co-curricular programs continue to thrive.
Marian Central welcomes 782 students each day, yet it exists as a comfortable and friendly community where students are valued and educated as whole people. Classes are small enough for students to get to know each other, yet the student body is large enough that students are offered a varied and challenging curriculum.
Teachers and staff are dedicated to the intellectual, physical, spiritual and emotional growth of every student, and they strive to provide the attention, nurturing and support necessary for a successful high school career.
Last year, more than 98 percent of the graduating seniors went on to higher education. Additionally, the Class of 2007 received college scholarships totaling more than $7.1 million.
Among the 169 graduates were 29 Illinois State Scholars, five National Merit Commended Scholars and two National Merit Semi-finalists and finalists.
Together, the Class of 2007 earned a mean ACT score of 23.8, and four students received a perfect score of 36 on the reading test.
