Carpentersville crash injures 4

A crash in Carpentersville stemming from a domestic dispute late Sunday sent four people to local hospitals and landed an Elgin man in jail, authorities said.

Edwin Espinoza, 29, of the 400 block of South Belmont Avenue, was cited seven times in the crash and taken to the DuPage County jail on a warrant, Carpentersville police Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne said.

About 6:44 p.m., police received a report of a domestic incident on the 1000 block of Tacoma Street and a woman being forced into a vehicle, Kilbourne said.

As officers investigated, the vehicle in the incident, a Ford SUV, was involved in a crash about 20 minutes later at Route 25 and Robin Road, Kilbourne said.

The SUV hit another vehicle occupied by a 40-year-old man and three females, age 36, 17 and 7. They were taken to Sherman and St. Joseph hospitals in Elgin for treatment of undisclosed injuries, he said.

The woman in Espinoza's vehicle was not injured and told police she had gone with Espinoza voluntarily.

Espinoza was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license, illegal transportation of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, leaving the scene, improper passing and improper lane usage, Kilbourne said.

He was transferred to the DuPage County jail after police found out he was wanted on an undisclosed warrant, Kilbourne said.
