Houses of worship that are interested in including their special holiday services should send a press release to the Daily Herald no later than today. Send your Christmas worship schedule too, if it's available.

Rotarians learn about Fermilab
The Noon Rotary of Elgin will host physicist Peter Garbincius, who will tell the club the new developments at Fermilab in Batavia. The club meets at noon at Villa Olivia Country Club, off Route 20 in Bartlett. The club welcomes visitors. For reservations or information, call Jay Curtis at (630) 584-2267.
Volunteers needed for Red Kettles
Judson University President Jerry Cain will launch the local Salvation Army 2008 Red Kettle Campaign Drive from noon to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Carleton Rogers Park, 75 N. Spring St. in Elgin. Cain is the 2007 Christmas Campaign chairman.
The annual campaign raises funds to provide basic necessities and supportive programs to Elgin area residents in need. Last year, the local Salvation Army assisted more than 13,000 residents with food, clothing, rent and utility assistance. In addition, literacy and youth character building programs helped hundreds of residents gain some necessary skills and confidence needed to succeed in life.
Volunteer bell ringers are needed to make the $150,000 campaign successful. Groups and individuals may register online at www.ringbells.org. For information, call (847) 741-2304. The Salvation Army is at 316 Douglas Ave. in Elgin. Highlights include holiday band music, free chili lunch served from the Salvation Army Emergency Services Canteen and the presentation of framed mural art by artist John Whytock. The art will be auctioned on eBay during the campaign.
Hispanic network plans luncheon
The Elgin Hispanic Network will host its annual Thanksgiving Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Holiday Inn, 495 Airport Road, Elgin.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Elgin Hispanic Network Scholarship Fund which annually awards $4,000 in educational scholarships to deserving young Latinos in the area.
