Monday matinee: At noon today, the movie "Lawrence of Arabia" will be shown. Doors open at 11 a.m.

The Faces and Places of India: At 7 p.m. Tuesday, join Bill Helmuth, storyteller, amateur photographer, and world traveler, as his stories and photographs provide a guided tour of India.

Book discussion: From 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, The Mystery On Loan Club sponsors a book discussion with author Robert Goldsborough on his book "Three Strikes You're Dead."

"Popeye" and "Swee'Pea": At 1 p.m. Nov. 19, see Alex "Popeye" Roghacker and dog "Swee'Pea" perform their stunt show.

They have performed all over the country, including appearances on the Late Show and The Tonight Show. Tickets are available to Palatine Public Library cardholders at the Reader Assistance Desk.

Adult book discussion: The book "Lying Awake" by Mark Salzman will be discussed on Nov. 19.

Tea on Tuesday: Tea on Tuesday is a new special senior event featuring books, sharing and refreshments. The event will be held at 3 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month in Meeting Room 2.

Thanksgiving storytimes: Special Thanksgiving storytimes will be held for children up to age 6.

Times are 10 a.m. Nov. 20 and Nov. 23, and 10:30 a.m. Nov. 24.

Teen Book Club: At 7 p.m. Nov. 20, the Teen Book Club will discuss "The Golden Compass" by Philip Pullman.

Pajama party: At 7 p.m. Nov. 21, children of all ages can join the library for a special storytime.

Pajamas and slippers are encouraged, and milk and cookies will be served.

Holiday movie: At 2 p.m. Nov. 23, see the new release "Santa Clause 3." Doors will open at 1:45 p.m.

Sunday at the Cinema: The movie "Bridge to Terabithia," rated PG, will be shown on Nov. 24.

Gingerbread house building: At 7 p.m. Nov. 28, learn ideas and methods for making gingerbread houses from "El Chef" Mike Niksic.

The completed house will be raffled off the day of the program. Entrants must be present to win.
