Two Warren teens accused in beating
Two Warren Township High School students were injured in an attack by other teenagers outside the Almond Road upperclassmen campus last week, authorities said.
Michael D. Dill, 17, of Gurnee, and Joseph Lombardi, 17, of unincorporated Lake County near Grayslake, were charged with battery. Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran said the charges are misdemeanors.
Warren spokeswoman Carolyn Waller said appropriate disciplinary action was taken against Dill and Lombardi. She said she couldn't elaborate.
Curran said the incident happened about 3:40 p.m. Nov. 1.
A 17-year-old Warren student was with a friend outside the Almond Road building when Dill, after arriving with "several carloads" of other boys, asked if he wanted to fight, according to a report filed by sheriff's Deputy Robert Tiedje.
After the victim declined to fight, Dill punched him in the face, Curran said. Dill is accused of continuing to hit the boy while holding him on ground.
Curran said the other 17-year-old victim tried to pull Dill off his friend. That's when Lombardi entered the fracas, pushing the friend into a wall and kicking his head, according to Tiedje's report.
At least two teenage girls who attend the Almond Road school witnessed the altercation and provided statements to sheriff's police, Curran said. He said the witnesses told authorities the two victims tried to avoid the confrontation with Lombardi and Dill.
Curran said authorities arrested Lombardi later in the day Nov. 1 while he was working in a fast-food restaurant in the Grayslake area. Police arrested Dill at a girlfriend's home in Gurnee, he said.
