Schools working to have kids eat well
Paper milk cartons are so last year.
This year, Arlington Heights Elementary District 25 started selling milk in 8-ounce plastic bottles instead of the paper cartons and milk consumption is up 9 percent in all District 25 schools, according to Coletta Hines-Newell, District 25's director of food services.
Soon District 25 officials will also post nutrition labels for more than 100 foods served in its cafeterias on its Web site, www.ahsd25.k12.il.us.
Former Chicago Bear James "Big Cat" Williams will visit South Middle School on Friday for the "Kicking Off Good Nutrition" campaign sponsored by the Midwest Daily Council. The promotion will reinforce the connection between good nutrition and academic and physical performance.
South students will don milk mustaches and eye black before posing for photos with "Big Cat."
