Pro-life groups do offer assistance
In her recent Fence Post letter referring to the pro-life organization that spent a great deal of resources, time and money to try to keep the abortion clinic from opening in Aurora, Anne Ahrens wrote, "It may be immoral to have an abortion, but it is also immoral to force a woman to have a child when the emotional and financial conditions are not present. I have not heard of any pro-life organization helping a mother after she demurred to the organization's wishes and had the baby."
She posed the question: "Wouldn't that time, money and resources be better utilized if it were spent on children already born or about-to-be-born to mothers with limited finances or on the special needs of children born with handicaps?"
It is not surprising that she and probably the majority of citizens are unaware of the many options open to those in special need. Among those is the Catholic Charities of Chicago, whose maternity services include professional counseling for pregnant teens, women, birth fathers and their families who are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Medical care planning and assistance is provided throughout pre-natal, delivery and post-natal periods. They can be reached at phone number (800) CARE-002.
On the other hand, in the past 34 years, countless billions of tax dollars have supported Planned Parenthood, which is primarily responsible for over 35 million abortions and which is the darling of media and many members of Congress. Against those odds, is it any wonder that pro-life organizations have a constant battle on their hands to save the unborn?
