Hoffman pizzeria employees charged with theft
Two employees of a local pizza parlor have been charged with theft after taking money from the store and then reporting it had been stolen, police said.
Hoffman Estates Sgt. Jim Campbell said Ronald Myles, 19, of 2000 Hassell Road in Hoffman Estates and Jose Avalos, 17, of 800 Monroe Avenue in Carpentersville were each charged with one felony count of theft after stealing an undisclosed amount of cash from the restaurant on the 1600 block of West Algonquin Road.
According to reports, the two men called and reported that there had been an armed robbery at the Little Caesar's restaurant Nov. 1.
After a short investigation, Campbell said, police determined that in fact no armed robbery had occurred and that Myles and Avalos took the money themselves.
"They reported the armed robbery to account for the missing money," Campbell said.
Because Myles was the one to actually report the armed robbery, he was also charged with one felony count of disorderly conduct, Campbell said.
Both men were being held on $20,000 bond with a Nov. 28 court date in Rolling Meadows.
