Liberal ranting doesn't count?

I have to laugh when I read a passionate letter such as the one by Sheryl Jedlinski (Fence Post, Oct. 24) castigating Ann Coulter, a private citizen, for her political views and rants.

Those on the left would never dream of making a parallel comparison between who Sheryl identifies as "conservative darling Ann Coulter" and let's say the lovable liberal Bill Maher. Both are nothing more than private citizens spewing their opinions in "shock jock" fashion. This is how they both choose to make a living - nothing more, nothing less. For every Ann Coulter there is a Bill Maher.

Now I don't agree with everything Ann Coulter espouses and I would hope Sheryl feels the same about Bill Maher. But there is a segment of the population where words actually do matter and that would be those of our elected politicians. I say to liberals that if the likes of Harry Reid, Dick Durbin, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer and the latest national embarrassment, Congressman Pete Stark, can continue to spew their anti-Bush rhetoric at a time of war for merely political advantage, then Ann Coulter can say anything her big heart desires.

Make no mistake about it: This is going to be a vicious upcoming election because we are a nation evenly divided smack dab in the middle of a "culture war" here at home. And make no mistake about it: For every Sheryl Jedlinski, I am proud to say there is a Frank Gabl.

So bring it on. Conservatives are ready, willing and most capable of sending Hillary stomping back to New York.
