Expert to discuss Cahokia Mounds
On Friday, join William R. Iseminger for a presentation on Cahokia mounds at 7 p.m. at the Elgin Public Museum, 225 Grand Blvd., Elgin.
The remains of the most sophisticated prehistoric native civilization north of Mexico are preserved in Illinois, just 8 miles from St. Louis.
This slide presentation features an overview of the American Indian cultures leading up to the time of Cahokia, followed by a discussion of Cahokia's culture and primary features. Views of the mounds, excavations, reconstructions, artifacts, maps and artist renderings of Cahokia Mounds also will be covered.
As one of the world's foremost experts on the Cahokia civilization, Iseminger has worked at Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site and offered public programs on subjects related to his work in archaeology and American Indian cultures of the Upper Mississippi and Illinois River Valleys.
Advance registration is necessary by calling the museum at (847) 741-6655. Admission is free but seating is limited.
