Dundee Township Public Library notes

The Children's Department of the Dundee Township Public Library hosted special Halloween Storytimes on Oct. 29-31 for preschoolers and their parents.

On Oct. 30, staff dressed up in costumes, much to the delight of their tiny visitors. They handed out bags filled with treats as more than 40 children and their parents enjoyed listening to stories at the program which was followed by the traditional parade through the library to show off their Halloween costumes.

Tremendous Twos: This storytime "Tremendous Twos" includes four weekly, 20-minute sessions and starts on Wednesday.

The children will listen to stories and be encouraged to participate in activities, fingerplays and singing. The toddlers must be age 2 by Wednesday and a mom, dad or caregiver must participate with the child. There is no charge for this storytime series.

The two sessions offered for this age group will be at 9:30 or 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, Nov. 7-28. Registration will continue until both sessions are full.

To register your child, either come to the library's children's department, 555 Barrington Ave. in East Dundee, or call the library at (847) 428-3661, ext. 310 or go to www.dundeelibrary.info for online registration.

All about joint replacement: Find out what's new on the medical front as the library hosts a program on "Current Techniques for Joint Replacements" at 7 p.m. Thursday in the library's meeting room, 555 Barrington Ave. in East Dundee.

Dr. Daniel Kuesis, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, will discuss the improvements in surgical materials and techniques which have greatly increased the effectiveness of joint replacements over the years.

Approximately 300,000 knee replacements are performed each year in the U.S. Whether you have just begun exploring treatment options or have already made the decision to have surgery, this program will provide an overview of some of the most current techniques in joint replacement, including minimally invasive procedures now available.

The free program is sponsored in partnership with the Alexian Health Systems. Registration is required by calling AlexianConnects at (866) 253-9426.
