Film discussion: The Film Discussion Circle at 1 p.m. today features "Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her," starring Glenn Close and Cameron Diaz. It is followed by refreshments and a discussion led by Ted Balcom at the Senior Center, 1801 W. Central Road, in Room 183. No fee or registration required.
Zoologist visits: Meet zoologist and author Dr. Robert James with a few of his fine-feathered and furry friends at "Animal Encounters." The free program has two sessions on Saturday. Veterans Day tribute: "Hi, My Name is Ernie Pyle," is a Veterans Day tribute program at 2 p.m. Sunday. During WWII, people on the home front eagerly awaited columns written by Ernie Pyle, one of our country's most beloved war correspondents. Join us for a touching and humorous dramatization of the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist's work as portrayed by historical re-enactor Gary Morrison. Holiday book drive: New book donations are being accepted through Dec. 3 for the library's annual Holiday Book Drive, to benefit Wheeling Township's Adopt-a-Family Holiday Basket program. Books are welcomed for readers of all ages, infant through age 16. Drop off book donations in the collection bin at the library's checkout desk on the first floor, or at Urban Harvest in downtown Arlington Heights at 15 S. Writing club: The library's monthly club, The Writing Place, meets at 7 p.m. Nov. 14. All writers are welcome, no matter at what level of expertise, to network with other writers in the community. Author talk: Author Talk, featuring Frank Joseph, will meet in the Hendrickson Room at 7 p.m. Nov. 15. Joseph's debut novel, "To Love Mercy," tells the story of two boys -- one white and Jewish, and the other black and the son of a preacher -- and their friendship developed in 1940s Chicago neighborhoods. The author will discuss life in the city during that time, from the South Side to long-gone Riverview amusement park.
