'The Nerd' arrives in Batavia this weekend
Batavia High School Theater presents the comedy "The Nerd" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Batavia High School cafetorium, 1200 W. Wilson St.
The play features the directing debut of Beth Oberfoell.
"The Nerd" was written by actor and playwright Larry Shue. The action centers on the dilemma of an aspiring young architect, Willum Cubbert (played by Sean Serluco) who has an unexpected visitor, Rick Steadman (Matt Dealy), appear during a gathering at his apartment.
Willum's trustworthy characteristics subtly catch the attention of his female friend and guest, Tansy McGinnis (Caitlin Jelm). Also present is Axel Hammond (Denzel Tsopnang), Willum's witty theater-critic friend, whose one-liners pack a punch.
Willum's stern client, Warnock Waldgrave (Kevin King); his patient, tasteful wife, Celia (Ashley Coussens); and their monstrous 8-year-old son Thor (Griffin Price), all participate in one uproarious incident after another.
Tape-recorded voices by Will Burdin, Adam Gilbert and Ben Isaaksen are part of the play as well.
The student assistant director is Katy Lyons, and the student stage manager is Will Burdin.
