Special education laws, advocacy to be discussed
The topic of the Special Kids, Special Families meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. today is "Understanding Your Child's IEP."
Jill Dressner, executive director and attorney with the Special Ed Advocacy Center, will discuss ways parents can advocate effectively on behalf of their children. Topics to be discussed include the basics of special education law, how the various laws work together, the recent changes in state special education law, how to avoid problems with a child's educational program, and how to ensure a child is getting an appropriate education.
