Dist. 41 plans summer work budget

Electrical work and air conditioning are the biggest priorities for construction in Glen Ellyn Elementary District 41 next summer.

The district is in the process of getting estimates from contractors on $1.59 million in work officials want to tackle.

They're also getting estimates on an additional $463,720 in projects -- though that work isn't slated, primarily because the cost estimates are so loose, said Bob Ciserella, assistant superintendent of finance, facilities and operations.

They'll wait and see how much that work is actually expected to cost, then look at the long-range maintenance and construction plans to see where it fits in, he said.

Officials also have discussed the possibility of adding mobile classrooms to Hadley Junior High School next year. At least one likely is needed for the literacy program.

A full report is expected to the school board in December or January, and depending on the board's decision and the cost of the mobiles, some of the planned work for next year could be delayed.

The work District 41 currently has on the table includes:

• Lincoln Elementary: $45,650, air conditioning for assistant principal, faculty lounge and library/office storage; $44,990, air conditioning for band rooms; $41,140, air conditioning for occupational/physical therapy

• Franklin Elementary: $464,600, storm-water upgrades; $100,000, repair, expand parking lot; $69,593, replace main electrical boards

• Forest Glen: $75,919, replace main electrical boards

• Hadley Junior High: $120,205, replace main electrical boards; $94,899, replace unit vents in small gym; $30,000, air conditioning in gym C; $40,000, air conditioning in computer server rooms

• Churchill Elementary: $265,126, replace boiler; $69,593, replace main electrical panel

• Administration center: $135,300, generator

The possible future work for which District 41 officials are looking to get accurate cost estimates includes:

• Lincoln Elementary: $66,220, air conditioning in multipurpose room

• Hadley Junior High: $225,280, air conditioning in gym A

• Churchill Elementary: $132,220, air conditioning in large gym; $40,000 air conditioning in multipurpose room.
