Wasting tax dollars on Wi-Fi service

The College of DuPage, funded largely by local property tax dollars, serves as a tremendous resource to our community.

Recently, the COD Board of Trustees received laptops at a cost of $1,729 each to assist them in executing their duties. This is a reasonable expenditure, considering that the trustees serve the community in a volunteer capacity.

However, it is disturbing that the board voted to fund the cost of Wi-Fi service to Trustee Wozniak's home at an additional cost of $50 per month.

In this day and age, the Internet can be accessed easily in a variety of ways, and is becoming as common as telephone service. Should we assume if a trustee could not be contacted by telephone that the college would pay for telephone service as well? Will he next request reimbursement for paper and ink for printing out documents he receives by e-mail?

Trustees Wessel, Mack, and Snyder should be commended for voting against this frivolous expenditure. In the current tight budget situation at the College of DuPage, the trustees should be focused on spending every dollar as wisely as possible and not paying for conveniences of trustees who were elected by the taxpayers to protect their assets.
