Pay story relied on manipulation

Regarding the Oct. 28 Daily Herald story headlined "School jobs pay off," the Daily Herald's reporter clearly was paying attention in class when she learned how to manipulate statistics to "prove" her point. She must have had excellent teachers.

The article implies that only doctors, physicists and astronomers earn more per hour than elementary teachers. It also suggests that her profession (editors and reporters) is at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to pay. Interesting.

Hard work and a good education are key elements to success in any profession. Teachers play a significant role in the ultimate success of every tax-paying citizen in this country. Whether a person is home schooled or attends public or private institutions, teachers guide the learning process from an early age through adulthood.

When sorting through ways to criticize the teaching profession, think about where you learned the skills to do so. Where would you be today without experiencing good teachers along the way?

Schools are not just glorified babysitting services. Don't sell teachers short. Thank a teacher for at least part of your success.
