Faith Christian is volleyball champ
Faith Christian School in Geneva won three matches in two days to capture the inaugural Fox Valley Athletic Conference volleyball tournament championship on Oct. 23. The Warriors finished their season with an overall record of 23-6, including a 13-2 mark in eighth-grade matches and a 9-0 record in seventh-grade competition.
The Warriors opened the tournament with a 25-17, 25-15 quarterfinal victory over Fox River Country Day of Elgin. They then edged Harvest Christian 25-16, 15-25, 15-5 in the semifinals before defeating top-seeded DaVinci Academy of South Elgin 25-16, 25-16 in the finals. Harvest beat Trinity Oaks Christian in three games to capture third place.
The Warriors' roster this season included eighth-graders Ally Ping, Jordyn Hoepner and Libby Harvey; seventh-graders Christine Slade, Danielle Ford, Kharis Louis, Emily Anderson and Shannon Mooney; sixth-graders Maddie Will and Crystal Okpisz and fifth-graders Chloe Rojas, Samantha Krill, Michaela Ping, Nicoletta Calabrese, Lauren Taylor, Gracie Smuk, Melody Fisher-Lewek, Amie Randall and Larissa Catalano.
