Roehl's 257 rushing yards most ever against ISU
Running back Tyler Roehl returned to the North Dakota State lineup after a forced layoff to rush for 257 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 54-28 win over visiting Illinois State on Saturday.
Bison coaches held out Roehl -- over his objections -- last week because of a sore shoulder suffered during a school-record 263-yard performance against Minnesota. He looked rested against the Redbirds.
Roehl's 257 yards were the most ever given up by an Illinois State team. He went over 200 yards for the third time this season and scored more than 2 touchdowns for the fourth time this year.
Luke Drone tossed 3 touchdown passes for Illinois State (4-6).
The teams combined for 1,024 yards of total offense, including a season-high 627 yards by the No. 1-ranked Bison (9-0) and 397 yards for the Redbirds.
SIU 10, WIU 9: Quarterback Nick Hill scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to give Southern Illinois a victory over Western Illinois in Macomb.
Hill completed 22 of 29 passes for 250 yards for the Salukis (8-1, 4-1 Gateway). His top targets were Justin Allen, who had 5 receptions for 62 yards, and Phil Goforth, who had 5 receptions for 44 yards. John Randle rushed for 42 yards for the Salukis.
Leathernecks (6-4, 3-2) running back Herb Donaldson rushed for 147 yards. Quarterback Matt Barr completed 16 of 25 passes for 208 yards for Western Illinois; he also rushed for 71 yards and scored a touchdown.
