Conservatives without compassion

An expansion of health care insurance for children, resulting from compromises by Senate Democrats and Republicans, was vetoed by President Bush and the veto was sustained by his Republican allies in the House of Representatives.

President Bush said he is a compassionate conservative and the Republican Party says it is pro-values, pro-life and pro-family. Is this professed goodwill real? Republicans favor continued billions of dollars in subsidies to the already flush oil companies and pushed through huge tax cuts that mainly went to the most well-off. Can't the wealthiest country the world has ever known do as well as other advanced countries in providing health insurance to its children?
