Current events

Current events members Allen Pollack and Jerry Pospisil at the club's meeting Oct. 23 discussed a local map showing areas contiguous to, and in some cases, virtually surrounded by Sun City that may eventually be non-Sun City residential developments.

Dorothy Pospisil indicated that Horizon Properties Group, believed to be the owners of the property, have placed it on the market. Others questioned whether some of the land may be designated as wetlands, not eligible for development.

Homebuilding collapse has local implications: Moderator Barry Marcus noted the surprise bankruptcy filing by Neumann Homes was not the only local effect of the downturn in residential construction. Ryland Homes and Lennar Homes have both reined in new home starts at the Talamore subdivision on Huntley's north side. The village of Gilberts and Community Unit School District 300 are faced with not receiving transition and infrastructure payments from Neumann, some of which were designated for the recently completed school on Galligan Road.

So many residents and so few candidates: Member and board president Don Kundich responded to criticism of the three position- three candidate election by expressing disappointment at what he perceived as the level of apathy by residents toward board service. Other members felt that there were additional, competent residents who would serve if the well publicized time requirements were not so great. Other members felt that the requirement for excessive hours by board members was because of a failure to adequately delegate and a tendency to micro manage rather than function as a board of directors.
