Briefs: Jacobs on TV news station

Fox News Chicago on Friday will feature Jacobs High School on its Shout Out segment, which highlights the accomplishments of area high schools, according to Community Unit District 300 officials. The segment will include photos and video of Jacobs' achievements at 6:10 a.m., 7:10 a.m. and 8:10 a.m., district officials said.

S. Elgin seeks efficiency

South Elgin village trustees will vote Monday on whether to begin the regular board meeting at the conclusion of the committee of the whole meeting. The committee of the whole meeting now begins at 7 p.m. and the board meeting starts at 8 p.m. But lately, the committee of the whole meeting has run only a few minutes, creating a long wait before the next meeting begins, Village President Jim Hansen said.

Roadwork slows McLean

Expect increased travel times on McLean Boulevard, from north of Bowes Road to south of Spring Street, while construction crews work on intersection improvements and pavement widening. Officials from the Kane County Division of Transportation said there will be intermittent daily lane closures and traffic will be shifted to temporary pavement along the west side of McLean. Gilberts seeks census labor

The village of Gilberts still doesn't have enough census workers to conduct a special census. The census will enable the village to collect a greater share of state funding. The village will pay $13.75 per hour, plus mileage, for 20 to 25 days of full-time work. You must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle. Visit firefighters Saturday

Station House Subs in Algonquin will host a day with the Carpentersville Fire Department between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday at 2397 S. Randall Road. Carpentersville firefighters will be on hand to answer questions about fire safety. Fire trucks will also be on display. Children will receive free coloring books, stickers and balloons.

Horses up for adoption

The 42 surviving draft horses from an Oct. 27 crash on Route 41 near Wadsworth are available for adoption. The Hooved Animal Rescue and Protection Society in Barrington is running the adoption program. Prospective owners must complete an application, which can be found at the organization's Web site: www.harpsonline.org.
