Round Lake Beach man arrested for alleged sexual assault on trail

A Round Lake Beach man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly trying to sexually assault a 19-year-old woman along Lake County's Millenium Trail near Wauconda.

Robert J. Evans, 28, of 1426 Lotus Drive was charged with attempted sexual assault, aggravated battery and unlawful restraint by the Lake County Ranger Police.

Wauconda police officers picked up Evans after responding to a disturbance call at the Orchard Hills subdivision Wednesday. Initially, police believed a man and a woman were fighting but later learned the Wauconda woman was attacked by a man along the trail.

An officer in the area saw Evans hiding in bushes along the trail and detained him since he matched the description given by the victim.

Lake County Ranger Police was notified because the trail falls under its jurisdiction. Evans will be taken for a bond hearing by the ranger police.
